The Haven of
The Lair

First meeting of the SOL Project with the animals of the Lair

1 hour from Paris, the SOL Project moved to Eure-et-Loir to "The Lair": the first zoo-haven in Europe. More than a zoo, the Haven of the Lair collects animals from trafficking, retired from circuses and laboratories.

Within this 2nd chance house, more than 600 animals are cared for, monitored and pampered by around thirty keepers and 200 volunteers. The owners of the place, Patrick and Francine Violas, surrounded by their valiant team, agreed to open their door to us on the occasion of the arrival of the music festival on a hot day !

While most of the inhabitants of the haven and the public rested in the shade or at home, some curious spirits were listening. Accompanied by Andreas AKIKI on the cello, Olena on the piano, Maxime CHAMPEAU on the guitar, Xavier on the harmonica and Sophie BANONGO on the zither, sensory discovery was once again curiously manifest.

Under the watchful eyes of the shelter's caretakers and managers, the exchange was once again a reality. This exchange was all the more striking given the already fragile relationship between the shelter's survivors and humans.

Benoit Gold, who was in charge of the project at the La Tanière, told us that "not to pass judgement" is the word that the La Tanière uses to describe the work that it carries out every day, and he accompanied us throughout the day. The SOL project's shared hope is to raise awareness of the common link between humans and other animal species, just like the environment that each species has in common.
